Eligibility
Multiple-entry student visas are issued to
- Bona fide students to pursue regular studies at recognized institutions in India.
- Research Professors (including Fulbright Scholars) or Scholars and participants attending research Conferences/Seminars/Workshops held in India.
- For Internship.
Spouse and Minor Dependents
Following dependents must apply for Student Visa and NOT Tourist or Entry Visa.
- Dependent of Student of Regular course in Universities Imparting Higher Education.
- Dependents of Students studying Yoga and Vedic culture, Indian System of music, dance, and Buddhist studies.
- Research Professors (including Fulbright Scholars) or Scholars and participants attending research Conferences / Seminars / Workshops held in India.
Its termination date will coincide with the period of the principal visa holder.
Duration and Validity
A Student Visa is a multiple entry visa. A Student Visa is valid for the period of study as approved by the educational institution in India.
The visa duration starts on the day of issuance, and not on the day of entry into India.
You should apply for Student visa at least 8 weeks in advance of your intended date of travel. However, persons of Pakistani heritage should apply at least three months in advance.
Provisional Visa
Due to several reasons such as pending admission tests or other requirements, the applicant may not yet have a firm letter from the university, recognized college or educational institution. In such cases, a provisional visa may be issued on the basis of the provisional admission certificate / letter of offer issued by the institution in India.
A provisional visa is valid for 3 months. If admission is not given or confirmed within the stipulated period, the student will have to leave India. Extension of a provisional student visa is not allowed.
Fulbright-Nehru Scholars – Additional Documents
Each visa application to be accompanied by the following:
- Certificate issued by the USIEF:
- Confirming grant of scholarship to the visa applicant
- Details of scholarship
- Details of Indian University / Institute to which the scholar would be affiliated
- Details and duration of course/ assignment
- Details of dependents, if any
- Copies of duly filled Research Performa.
- Details of dependents, if any.
- Letter from the Indian University / Institute [to which the grantee would be affiliated]
- Confirming grantee’s affiliation to the University / Institute
- Details and duration of course/assignment
Internship
An Internship visa is granted subject to fulfillment of the following conditions:
- The foreign national must comply will all legal requirements like payment of tax liabilities etc.
- The documents pertaining to the proposed intern will be thoroughly checked to decide the category of visa that may be issued to the foreigner.
- The name of the sponsoring employer/organization shall be clearly stipulated in the visa sticker.
- The Indian organization/entity that sponsors an Intern Visa does not necessarily have to be the legal employer of the person.
- The intern must provide a letter from The Indian Company/Educational institution / NGO concerned sponsoring the foreign national for the internship program and clearly indicate the period of internship. This letter has to be on a company letterhead duly signed and stamped.
- An undertaking letter is required from the company in India confirming that the company/organization/NGO concerned will ensure the departure of the foreigner on completion of the Internship.
- This letter has to be on a company letterhead duly signed and stamped.
- The intern must provide a letter from the company in India taking responsibility for the activities and conduct of the applicant during his/her stay in India and repatriation, if ever necessary. This letter has to be on a company letterhead duly signed and stamped.
- In the case of a paid intern, remuneration documents have to be enclosed with the amount and confirming that the tax will be paid as per the guidelines implemented by the Government of India. This document has to be on a company letterhead duly signed and stamped.
- In the case of a paid intern, MINIMUM REMUNERATION IS 65,000/month or 7.8 LAKH per annum for interns wanting to pursue internships in companies. However, there is no minimum salary limit in case of an internship in an educational institute/NGO.
- The intern is required to provide their Current Graduation / Post- Graduation certificate.
- The gap between completion of graduation / post-graduation and commencement of the internship should NOT be more than 1 year.
Internship – Charity / Non-Profit Organization
- An Intern Visa Applicant who intends to do volunteer work with charities or non-profit organizations must include a letter from the sponsoring organization in India on letterhead indicating the nature and the duration of the visit and place of work.
- The same letter must also be signed by an authorized signatory.
- The letter from the sponsoring organization needs to state whether the applicant will be a paid or non-paid intern
